Veronica Morrow Obituary

Veronica Frances Leihardt Morrow, 93, of Weimar passed away peacefully on March 12, 2023. She was born on July 24, 1929, in Weimar to William and Jane Olsovsky Leihardt.

As a child, Veronica attended St. Michael Catholic School and graduated from Weimar High School in 1948. She played the organ at St. Michael’s. After graduation she attended the Benedictine Convent in San Antonio. She left due to health reasons and later worked at Herder Trucking Lines.

Veronica and James Martin Morrow were married on her 21st birthday on July 24, 1950, at St. Michael’s. When Jim drove into Weimar for their wedding Fr. Victor Goertz woke him up for their early morning wedding, as Jim had slept overnight at the rectory. They were married for 37 years, Jim dying in 1987.

Veronica was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed playing tennis, playing the piano and organ, crocheting and knitting, as well as playing canasta and dominoes. She also enjoyed her African violets, orchids and roses.

Jim and Veronica’s journey in life together due to Jim’s 40 plus years with Fluor Corporation would take them all over the United States, from Kentucky, Kansas, Minnesota, Maryland, Ohio, Illinois, Texas, Louisiana, California and to many places in between. Each place involved setting up a different home, school, dentist, doctor, Catholic church, etc., only to start all over when it came time to move five months to a year later. Their first child went to over 13 schools between first grade and when he graduated high school.

But always, Veronica would send an updated address to the Weimar Mercury so we could get the news from “home”. It was always fun to see our names or someone we knew in the 10, 20, and 30 - 100 year categories.

The Catholic Church was central to our lives. Mom and Dad always tried to get us into a Catholic school and St. Michael’s Church was a model of what a Catholic Church should look like.

Veronica is preceded in death by her parents Willie and Janie Leihardt; husband Jim Morrow; sister Margaret Leihardt Gallo; brothers Rufus and Marvin Leihardt; and granddaughter Paige Morrow.

She is survived by:  Son Jim and Beth and their 3 sons, Beau and Brooke (sons Jackson and Knox), Paul and Lindsey (son Beckett, daughter Gemma), Ben and Amber (son Alakai, daughter Melody) all living in the Austin, Texas area; Daughter Mary Jo and John Davis of Richmond, Texas, and their son Jeff and Jordan of Allen, Texas, daughter Kelsey Veronica Davis of Seattle, Washington, daughter Jenna Lillian and Kyle Hausheer and their daughter Maeve of San Diego, California, and daughter Janelle and Fiancé Kevin Maxey of Austin, Texas; Son Joe and Tina and their daughter Taylor and (deceased) Paige of Columbus, Texas; and Daughter Martha Jane (Janie) Colyar of Pearland, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Weimar, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael Catholic School at P.O.Box 36, Weimar, Texas 78962.
