Obituary

Joe Donald Hurta was born on March 27, 1931 to the parents of the late Charles J. Hurta and Rosa “Rosie” Marek Hurta.  He entered into eternal rest on April 6, 2021 in Metairie, Louisiana with family by his side.

He was preceded in death by his brother Charlie R. Hurta, his sisters Delores Hoegemeyer (Milroy), Marguerite Friedrich (Ewald), Virginia Elliott, and Josephine Rowan (Roy).

He is survived by his daughters Terry Hurta Sulli of Metairie, LA., and Patricia “Patty” Hurta Kimmell (Donny) of Shreveport, Louisiana, 3 granddaughters Angelina “Angie” Sulli, Kali Kimmell Whatley (Josh), and Alyssa Kimmell, and 4 great-grandchildren Clara, Evelyn, Lila Belle, and James along with numerous nieces and nephews in Texas.

He was a proud veteran having served 2 years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Throughout his lifetime he worked as a Salesman, an automobile mechanic, and he was owner of both a Texaco Station in Belle Chasse, and a Hot Shot company in the South Louisiana area.   He lived in Louisiana for over 60 years but made numerous trips to Georgia to spend time with his daughters, and to Texas to visit family and friends.  He was a devoted family man.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff of Hospice Specialists of Louisiana for their care and support during this difficult time.

A private graveside burial will take place at a later time at the Masonic Cemetery in Weimar, Texas.

“Ode to Family”

By Alyssa Kimmell, 2006

Family is extremely important to me.

What would I be without family.

They are there for you through thick and thin.

Even when you think you’ve done the worst sin.

Kind and patient they try to be.

And oh, how much they cherish me.

Sometimes we forget the love they give

But we come to realize it as we live.

Wherever I go

I will always know..

That my family will be there

With lots of care.

Love, care, and cherish you

Are just some things that families do.

Family is so important to me.

Because I love, care, and cherish thee.

I just wanted to say thanks for always being there and I thank God for putting such a wonderful Grandpa in my life! I love you always and forever and then some more and Happy 75th Birthday!
