Donna Gloria Trefny went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2021. She was born on November 30, 1934 to the late Perry & Stella Mae Edgell in Melvindale, Michigan.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Perry Edgell, Jr.
Donna is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Charles T. Trefny; her children, Charles Russell Trefny and his wife Michaelanne of Weimar, Michael Theodore Trefny and his wife Sandra of Weimar, Kimberly Anne Trefny Cardarelli and her husband Bryan of Weimar; brother, Russell Banush and his wife Nicki of Michigan; grandchildren, Lauren Linder and her husband Adam, Morgan Zimmer and her husband Andy, Brandt Trefny, Jessye Trefny, and Joshua Cardarelli and great grandchildren, Margo Linder and Harper Zimmer.
Donna met the love of her life, Charles T. Trefny, on a blind date in Michigan while she was in nursing school and he was stationed there in the U.S. Army in 1954. They married November 26, 1955 and after his discharge, April 5, 1956, they moved to Texas where they resided on his family farm and ranch. For many years they enjoyed taking their children to Michigan for summer vacation with her family, where they would go fishing and swimming on a small lake.
As a child, Donna loved ice skating and took her family to Michigan for Christmas one year where she taught them all to ice skate and snow sled.
Donna worked for 32 years as a secretary in the Weimar School District starting in the elementary school, then middle school, and on to the high school. She retired as the secretary to the Superintendent of Schools.
Donna’s favorite sport was tennis. She loved watching the annual Wimbledon Championship Tournament. Of course, she enjoyed playing with friends and was proud to be competitive with women many years her junior.
Donna’s favorite place in her home was the kitchen. She enjoyed cooking but loved baking. She taught herself how to make pies, cakes, poppy seed rolls, cinnamon rolls, peanut and pecan brittle, pecan pralines, and a vast array of cookies. Her family loved it all, but were particularly fond of her pecan and dewberry pies and German Chocolate Cake with coconut and pecan frosting. Always competitive, Donna had entries in the Colorado County Pecan Show Food Competition and won many ribbons and the Grand Prize for overall Best of Show.
Donna was a loving wife, mother and Christian. She will be missed by all who knew her.
