Loretta Cernoch, 91, died at Parkview Manor Nursing Home on March 23, 2019 where she had been a resident for the past 8 years.

Loretta was born in Weimar, Texas to Jim and Cecelia Dolezal on July 1, 1927 and was raised in Ammansville.  She enjoyed her childhood with her sisters, Alma and Janie.

Loretta married her long-time sweetheart, Joe Cernoch, when he returned from war on May 28, 1946.  Loretta was a housewife and mother for many years and returned to work at various jobs in Weimar when her children started school. She was very involved with her children’s school and sports activities and church organizations. Loretta was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, and K.J.Z.T. for many years. She loved to volunteer and assisted with Mass at Parkview Manor every Wednesday, was very active in KJZT and helping the Junior KJZT dance throughout the state of Texas, and working many concession stands/sno-cones at St. Michaels’ School and Bishop Forest High School. She loved to play bingo with her sisters and was instrumental in getting bingo started at Bishop Forest High School.  Her love of sports brought her to watch many late night games on TV (especially the Astros) and attend sporting events for her children and grandchildren. Loretta was a great baker and loved to make “triskies” (known in Czech as Trdelnik) at Christmas along with her wonderful cakes and cookies.  Her grandchildren remember her famous ‘kapanka’ soup and home-made mac and cheese.

Loretta is survived by her son – Dan Cernoch of San Antonio; two daughters – Beckie Berger and her husband David of San Antonio and Jennifer Cernoch and her husband Tom Bailey of San Antonio. She is also survived by six grandchildren – AnaLise Long (Donald) of Dallas; Brandy Chapman (Matt) of San Antonio; Zak Cernoch (Carmen) of San Antonio; Megan Carver (Robby) of San Antonio; Nic Berger (Audrey) of Dallas; and Caitlin Bailey of San Antonio. Loretta also has 12 great-grandchildren: Molly, Katherine and Zoey Long; Ben and Ella Chapman; Julianne and Madeline Cernoch; Olivia, Morgan, and Reese Carver; and Tess and Rowan Berger.  She is also survived by her sister, Alma Dusek, and many nieces and nephews.

Loretta is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Cecelia Dolezal; husband, Joe Cernoch; and sister, Janie Kallus.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to:  St. Michael’s Church and School; Parkview Manor Nursing Home; Hospice Brazos Valley; or a charity of one’s choice.
